Meet The Team of dentists in York

  • Our Dentists:

    Dr Richard Fisher      GDC No 55354

    Richard Fisher is the clinical and business director of the practice. He qualified in his home city of Edinburgh in 1981 followed by 6 years in the Royal Army Dental Corps, reaching the rank of Major. He achieved DGDP with the faculty of general dental practitioners of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996. He has an on going clinical attachment with the Orthodontic department at York hospital and held the post of president of York Dental Society between 2007-08.

    Richard is married with one daughter at university. He relaxes by walking his black Labrador dog  ‘Bruce’ and is a keen skier and windsurfer. He has a sub aqua diving qualification and is a member of a local water-ski and wakeboard club, which he participates regularly with his daughter. At quieter moments, he is also enjoys fly fishing.

    Dr Zareen Ashraff       GDC No  72216

    Dr Zareen Ashraff qualified in 1996 at Leeds and has a particular interest in Endodontics (root canal treatments). In 2013  she completed a Postgraduate Training Course in advanced endodontic techniques and appropriate use of specialist equipment and materials. Zareen makes the most of her leisure time, enjoying  cycling, fitness training and tap dancing.  She has taken part in several races to raise money for charities, such as The Great North Run for Asthma U.K. and Castle Howard 10k for Cancer Research and Tapathons for Children in Need. She also likes taking active holidays snowboarding in winter and mountain biking in summer. She loves listening to music, especially guitar based rock, plays piano and drums and enjoys the cinema. Zareen has given birth to her two lovely children, Padme and Lily since joining the practice in 2006.

    Dr Hussein Hassanali      GDC No 176708

    Dr Hussein Hassanali graduated from Liverpool University in 2009 and has worked in a wide variety of practices throughout North Yorkshire. He has developed special interests in endodontics and oral surgery and is currently midway through his diploma in Restorative and Aesthetic dentistry. He places a high importance on preventative dentistry and minimally invasive techniques. In his spare time he is a keen squash player which helps to burn off the calories from his passion for food!

  • Neil

    Our Dentists:

    Dr Neil Martin       GDC No  176477

    Neil qualified in 2009 from Dundee University and completed his vocational training in Kirkcaldy. He remained there for four years, enjoying his dentistry and building an excellent rapport with his patients. He continues to enjoy all aspects of dentistry but in particular advanced crown and bridge restorations. Outwith work Neil is a keen sportsman playing both hockey and cricket to a high level.

  • Our Hygienists:

    Emma Stephenson      GDC No 6583

    Emma qualified from Leeds Dental Institute in 2004 as a dually qualified dental hygienist and dental therapist.  She has worked in both roles with in the NHS and privately.  Emma joined the practice in 2011 but actually trained as a Dental Nurse with us over ten years ago before retraining in Leeds.  Emma particularly enjoys meeting new people and taking on new periodontal cases.  Over the last 18 months this has been particularly so, as a change in the law means patients can now access Emma directly without the need for referral from a Dentist.  Emma enjoys attending courses and conferences to keep up to date with new techniques

    In her spare time Emma is a keen baker and enjoys creating beautiful cakes for her friends and family.  She is also ‘Mummy’ to her Scottie dog Vader; they enjoy long walks in the Westwood in her home town of Beverley.

  • Our Hygienists:

    Kate Blackmore      GDC No 4342

    Kate originally joined the practice in 1989 when she trained and worked as a dental nurse. She then left to study Dental hygiene at Sheffield dental school before returning some years later. Kate is married to dentist Tim whom she met during her first stint with us in 1993. She has 2 lovely girls Lorna and Maisie. Kate’s interests include cake decorating, wood working and any arts and crafts.  She also enjoys walking the family’s cocker spaniel ‘Dodge’.

  • Our Hygienists:

    Cheryl McBroom       GDC No 2959

    Cheryl qualified as a hygienist at the Army dental training centre in Aldershot in 1985. She has worked in a great variety of practices including Camberley, Salisbury, Preston, Darlington and even Germany.  Cheryl has been with us since 2000 and is a very familiar face at Strensall. She has two grown up children Conan and Coral,  enjoys running and the gym in her spare time, and she loves to attend live music concerts. Cheryl has prviously volunteered for Dental charity trips to Tanzania and Cambodia to help deliver much needed dental care.

    Lana Carberry       GDC No  5164

    Lana joined the practice in 2004 having qualified as dental hygienist from Queen’s University Belfast. She likes to spend her spare time with friends here in Yorkshire and in Ireland, and enjoys walking her blackLabrador, Bella and fox red Labrador, Poppy.

  • Our Practice Managers:

    Charlotte Scott       GDC No 133450

    Charlotte is originally from Dunnington and had been a patient of the practice for many years when she joined us as a trainee dental nurse in 1994, qualifying with a National Certificate in Dental Nursing in 1997. She is our longest serving member of staff having done nearly all the various jobs in the practice at some time. In 2006 she became the Strensall Practice Manager, working closely with the clinical director Richard Fisher in meeting the requirements set by the Care Quality Commission and the criteria needed to meet Denplan Excel accreditation. Charlotte achieved a level 5 Diploma in management in 2011.

    She loves spending her spare time with her young son, William and the new friends gained since his birth.  She also enjoys family days out with William and her husband, Chris.  They love holidays and short breaks within the UK with a great fondness of the Isle of Man.

     

  • Our Practice Managers:

    Alison McMahon       GDC No 126469

    Alison joined the practice in 2000 as a trainee dental nurse having previously worked in childcare. She has undertaken clinical nursing and reception duties over the years until in 2011 she became the practice Manager at Dunnington. As Alison’s husband was a member of the Armed forces, she was fortunate to have lived in Germany for a number of years and various locations in the UK. Alison has three grown up children and two black Labradors called Bella and Isla. In her spare time, when she’s not in Scotland visiting relatives, she likes to catch up with friends.

  • Our Nurses:

    Michelle Robertson

    Michelle joined us in 2011 as a trainee dental nurse went on to qualify with an Advanced Level Apprenticeship in health (Dental Nursing) in October 2013. She previously obtained a qualification in equine management but now only rides for pleasure in her spare time. Her other interests include working out at her local gym, socialising and walking her two terrier dogs Nila and Beau.

  • Our Nurses:

    Laura Patchett       GDC No  182045

    Having previously worked in a children’s nursery, Laura joined the practice in 2007 to train as a dental nurse, subsequently gaining her national certificate in dental nursing. She is currently a named cross infection control nurse and has also undertaken further training in orthodontics. Her interests include the gym, cinema and music, and she particularly enjoys attending live concerts. In future Laura would like to continue sub aqua diving to gain a qualification.

  • Our Nurses:

    Portia Houghton

    Portia joined the practice on 2010 as a trainee Dental Nurse.  She has since gained a National Dental Nursing examination at Leeds Dental Institute in 2012. She has previously studied Health and Social Care, Art and Psychology at A level.

    In her spare time she enjoys going to the Gym and taking part in ‘boot camps’! In future she would like to further her dental studies and travel more.

    Kirsty Hardy-Rollins       GDC No  179903

    Kirsty joined us in 2006 having previously been in charge of the photographic department at a local store. She trained and qualified as a dental nurse with us and is also a qualified orthodontic nurse. Kirsty currently splits her time between clinical nursing duties and reception at Strensall. She enjoys gardening and holidays abroad in her spare time to support her partner Jodie’s passion for scuba diving.

    Hayley Routledge       GDC No 171555

    Hayley joined the practice in 2005 to train with us and she is now the named cross infection control nurse at Dunnington. Since joining she has become the a very busy Mum of two beautiful girls and when she is not being the ‘taxi of mum’ she enjoys spending her time baking, walking and when the opportunity arises she and her partner like to enjoy socialising with friends over a nice meal.

    Lucy Waring       GDC No 179118

    Lucy joined the practice in 2005 to train as a dental nurse with us. She previously held a position as an account manager locally for a leading cosmetics firm. As she is from a farming background, she has always been comfortable with animals and in recent years has kept turkeys, quails and even a peacock. In her spare time, Lucy enjoys making pictures from such diverse objects as skittles sweets and quails eggs.

    Jennifer Bone      GDC No 183546

    Jennifer joined us in 2005 having previously been qualified and worked in childcare. She had taken some time out to travel Australia before returning to train and qualify as a dental nurse with us. Jennifer is from Dunnington originally and is another very longstanding patient of the practice who chose to come to work here. She is now in charge of our stock control for the two practices, nurses and works on reception as required. Jennifer likes to spend time with son Jake, loves to socialise and occasionally horse rides.
